4 Famous Windows From Around the World

There are many awe-inspiring windows around the world. They are the most prominent feature of a building’s exterior that does not only perform a utilitarian function, such as ventilation and letting in natural light, but also lend beauty and charm to a structure. Today, we look at four famous windows from across the globe.

4 Famous Windows From Around The World

1. South Rose Window, Notre Dame Cathedral, France

Probably one of the most famous stained glass windows in the world, the South Rose Window of the Notre Dame Cathedral was constructed in 1260 and symbolizes Christ’s triumph and reigning over heaven surrounded by his witnesses on earth.

2. York Minster Cathedral, England

One of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe, York Minster Cathedral houses over 120 stained glass windows. The building is best known for its four famous stained glass window installations: the Great West Window, the Great East Window, the Rose Window and the Five Sisters Window, each of which depicts a scene from the Bible as well as renowned figures in the Catholic Church.

3. Oculus, Pantheon, Rome

One of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions, the Pantheon used to serve as a temple and houses the world’s largest unreinforced solid concrete dome. The dome’s most prominent future is “the eye” or oculus, which is a tiny hole that allows a circle of light to form on the church’s floor and is the only source of natural light in the building.

4. Nasir al-Mulk Mosque, Iran

Also known as the Pink Mosque, the windows in Nasir al-Mulk in Tehran are among the most spectacular in the world. From the exterior of the building, the mosque does not appear particularly interesting, but from the inside, the colors from the stained glass windows create an absolutely breathtaking rainbow-like effect throughout the whole interior of the building and is truly a sight to behold.

Reviews

"Love the windows and patio door. We want to finish the whole house when we can financially. We give Anderson and employees, especially the sales rep Mike that came to our house, the highest rating. Mike was knowledgeable and courteous. Also not high pressure."

"Our installation team was top notch. While they said they were sending a "team"to install 21 windows it was only two people. But I see why, the process was seamless and everything was done correctly and consistently with the leadership of Clayton. We had a tiny problem with one window within a week of installation and their response time was prompt to remedy the situation. Our windows are beautiful. Our home is warm and cozy."
