How to Make Off-Season Window Replacement Work

Replacement windows installation is ideally done during the spring or summer, but there are situations where it just can’t wait. Fortunately, window replacement can be done in most weather conditions. Here’s how to make off-season window replacement work.

Check the Weather Forecasts

As much as possible, try to book the installation date on a clear and sunny day. Starting the job mid-morning gives the materials time to warm up and expand. Installing the windows before the frames and sashes have acclimatized to the local climate may result in warping or improper operation.

One of the advantages of working with a local window replacement company is that they know the local climate and can tell you whether or not the weather is suitable for installation. We at Renewal by Andersen® know that the performance of energy-efficient windows depend on proper installation, and we don’t proceed with the installation unless we’re 100% sure that it will not be affected by the weather.

One at a Time vs. Whole-House Window Removal

More than a few replacement window contractors begin the window replacement process by removing all the old windows at the same time before starting on the first one. While this process works on a newly built house, doing it on an already occupied home has many downsides. You will have to turn off your home’s HVAC system for the project’s duration, hoping it won’t get too uncomfortable. This also leaves the home open to dust, pollen and other particulates that may clog the air filters.

Our window replacement process at Renewal by Andersen is different. We remove and replace one window at a time. This means you don’t have to turn off your HVAC system. In addition to keeping your home comfortable, your HVAC system will actually consume less energy if kept running. Turning it off and back on consumes more energy, or fuel, if your home has a furnace. This process lets us perform window replacements virtually any time of the year.

"Very pleased with installation of six windows and a ProVia entry door. I love the look of the windows and door. I am pleased that my wife is thrilled with the look of the door. She is very pleased that the bronze color fits in well with the color of the brick."

"I just had my Renewal by Andersen windows installed and couldn’t be happier, the entire process went very smoothly. The windows are high quality and look great. But the installers Roy, Zack and Jordan were the stars, they introduced themselves upon arrival walked me thru everything they were going to do and when they finished took me to each window to make sure I was completely satisfied. They were clean and courteous and I would definitely recommend and have them work in my home again."

"Wonderful experience with knowledgeable, competent employees. We had Andersen windows in a previous house & didn’t even consider anything else this time. After replacing our patio door almost two years ago, we replaced all our windows this year. What a difference over builder-grade windows, especially in the really cold temperatures we’ve had this year. Andersen windows may be a little more expensive than other brands, but they are top quality."
