Making Window Replacement Work When You Can’t Wait for Summer

Most home improvement upgrades like window replacement projects are often done during fall or springtime when the weather is much more favorable and calm. However, harsh weather conditions are inevitable, requiring you to make do with the current conditions and do your best regardless of the situation. Here’s how you can make these work.

Window Replacement

  1. Ask the installation team to pay a visit on the warmest, sunniest day possible. The weather is generally colder during winter, but there will be days when the sun will be shining its brightest. These are the days you want to have your window contractor come in and do the work. You are highly urged to be mindful of rain forecasts because sealants require curing before they can be exposed to water.

  2. Request that a silicone-based caulk be usedRather than opting for contemporary latex or acrylic caulking, this is a smart choice to consider. Silicone-based caulk adheres better to windows compared to acrylic and latex products when temperatures are colder. It is also generally better at weatherization and waterproofing compared to the two, helping ensure your replacement windows are insulating as they should.

  3. Make certain that your window contractor is using a sealant. It will be better if it’s with high joint movement capability, which is expressed as a rating of plus or minus 25% movement on the caulk tube. Caulk with high joint movement capability performs better overall compared to a product with plus or minus 12% movement when installed in cold weather.

"Very pleased with installation of six windows and a ProVia entry door. I love the look of the windows and door. I am pleased that my wife is thrilled with the look of the door. She is very pleased that the bronze color fits in well with the color of the brick."

"I just had my Renewal by Andersen windows installed and couldn’t be happier, the entire process went very smoothly. The windows are high quality and look great. But the installers Roy, Zack and Jordan were the stars, they introduced themselves upon arrival walked me thru everything they were going to do and when they finished took me to each window to make sure I was completely satisfied. They were clean and courteous and I would definitely recommend and have them work in my home again."

"Wonderful experience with knowledgeable, competent employees. We had Andersen windows in a previous house & didn’t even consider anything else this time. After replacing our patio door almost two years ago, we replaced all our windows this year. What a difference over builder-grade windows, especially in the really cold temperatures we’ve had this year. Andersen windows may be a little more expensive than other brands, but they are top quality."
