Should You Be Worried About Summer Window Condensation?

Condensation is when water vapor turns into a liquid state. It happens all around us, from the dew forming on the grass in the early morning to water droplets appearing on the outside of a glass of cold water left at room temperature. The same thing happens to windows and doors, especially in winter. Not all people, however, are aware that it also occurs during the warmer months, too.

Should You Be Worried About Summer Window Condensation?

But should you be worried about window condensation in the first place? Continue reading to find out.

Window Condensation in Winter and Summer

As outdoor temperatures drop through the fall and winter months, expect your windows to “sweat” quickly. This happens due to warm, moist indoor air touching the cold windows, doors, frames and walls. The fogging on the window glass happens on the window’s interior.

The reverse of this happens in the summer months when outdoor temperatures increase while the indoor air is kept relatively cool, thanks to air conditioning. Condensation can still occur on your windows, but this time, the fogging on the glass happens on the window’s exterior.

Is Condensation Dangerous?

Many homeowners see window condensation as a detriment to the overall energy efficiency and comfort of their homes. That’s far from the truth – fogging on the glass does look unsightly, but it is not something to worry about, especially in terms of the windows’ functionality. If you have energy-efficient windows installed in your home, condensation is an indication that they are working as intended. You can even wipe off the water droplets as soon as you see them.

It only becomes a big problem if the fogging appears in between the glass panes. If this is the case, it only means that the seals are broken, and the inert gas fill inside has escaped. Your windows are no longer thermally efficient and must be replaced right away.

"We had such a great experience with Renewal by Anderson. The salesman was great in explaining the product as well as the process. He was prompt and pleasant. He measured our old door and scheduled another to remeasure just in case. The door took some time to make but we were made aware of the COVID delays. They called me several times to inform us of the progress. Actually we were told it was going to be the middle of August and it turned out to be a week early. The install was awesome..."
